Training Style

Mark trains at the Miletich Martial Arts Center with Pat Miletich, Mark Hughes, Jeremy Horn, Jens Pulver and many other top fighters. Miletich’s gym is gaining a reputation as one of the best places to train in the world.

Mark started wrestling as a freshman in high school. Mark is the twin brother of UFC veteran Matt Hughes. “Matt and I always wrestled growing up. My cousin helped us wrestle around in the summer before wrestling. I think I was an above average wrestler but Matt went on and wrestled further than I did. I stopped wrestling after junior college.”

Matt started training in fighting before Mark. “He was wrestling around with a guy that was showing moves and Matt was showing him takedowns. I thought it was neat and then Matt had his first fight in Chicago and I thought that it was all right so I just kind of followed him. Matt kind of pushed me into it.” Growing up, Mark and Matt didn’t get along at all. “In high school we did not get along. We could not wrestle with each other. We got into a lot of fights in high school, we just didn’t like each other. When he went off to college and I went back home and we separated, that’s when we became close.”
