Biography

TRAINING: Training has been the usual fitness work and sparring, but I have l have been concentrating on my wrestling and jiu-jitsu, as I know I will need these against Caio.

Thoughts on opponent, Caio Magalhaes? Fighting any Brazilian in Brazil will obviously be difficult. I have watched some footage of Caio and he looks like a typical strong Brazilian fighter. He actually reminds me of Ronny Markes, who beat me in what I think was one of my most frustrating fights, as Ronny just did not want to engage. I hope Caio comes to fight and wants to put on an exciting show for his fans. I think the UFC are more likely to keep you if you go out on your shield rather than just boring everyone to tears with a defensive and safe points win.

When and why did you start training for fighting?
2007 – I enjoy the competition.

What ranks and titles have you held? CFC World and European Heavyweight Champion

Do you have any heroes? Fedor Emelianenko

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It has always been my dream and ambition to compete at the highest level and to showcase my skills.  I believe that fighting for the UFC is the ultimate, and to fight in the USA before the great people of America fills me with great emotion and excitement. I hope to prove I am good enough for the UFC and to eventually become one of their main fighters. I am very grateful for the opportunity.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? No

What was your job before you started fighting? Door supervisor

Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Six-time Czech Republic national wrestling champion

Favorite grappling technique: Rear naked choke

Favorite Striking technique: Overhand right

• Has only gone the distance twice (against Madsen and Markes)

• Has five wins by submission, five by TKO / KO

• Third fight at middleweight (1-1)

• All submission wins by rear naked choke

• Had not gone out of the first round in any of his pre-Massenzio victories – longest fight was 3:46 – five wins in less than a minute.
