When and why did you start training for fighting? I’ve been in tae kwon do since I was three years of age, but didn’t realize I wanted to start fighting until I turned 15; that’s when I started to really kick box and train hard.

Do you have any heroes? I have a lot of heroes - most of the old UFC fighters, and I really liked Tito (Ortiz) for a long time; I thought he was the greatest. Vitor Belfort is probably the one man that to this day, no matter how he does, I’m going to be on his side. I see me in everything about him; he’s a real fighter’s hero

What is your favorite technique? I love to kick. A big round kick to your face, watch out.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? To fight in the UFC, that was just a dream. UFC is the NFL of MMA to me, and I always thought it was going to be impossible for an average guy like me to be in it. I cried when I got the call and I get goose bumps ‘til this day because I still can’t believe it. It means everything to me.

What was your job before you started fighting? I teach tae kwon do for a living, and still do.
