Biography

TRAINING: Nintendo WiiU and 3DS games. Watching a lot of Justified episodes on Blu Ray to prep for the series finale. The usual mesh of martial arts, as well as strength and conditioning.
 
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started after my first semester in college. I was a huge fan from the beginning and training was awesome.
 
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? Multiple time NAGA grappling champion, Grapplers Quest Champion, and Virginia-based King of the Ring Bantamweight Amateur MMA Champ
 
Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Four-time UFC Submission of the Night Award winner, UFC Knockout of the Night Award Winner
 
Ranks in any martial arts styles: Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo Liborio.
 
Do you have any heroes? CM Punk
 
What is your favorite technique? Reverse omoplata
 
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? A dream come true, a life accomplishment, and the realization that this is what I want to dedicate the rest of my life to.
 
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I went to four colleges, then I got my real education and degree at American Top Team.

What was your job before you started fighting?
I worked at a bagel bakery.
• 15 wins by submission (5 guillotine choke, 4 triangle choke, armbar, 4 RNC, inverted reverse triangle / kimura), three by KO
 
• Over 30 grappling matches (25-8-1) – has never been submitted
 
• Completed Half Ironman Triathalon (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride, and a 13.1 mile run) in May of 2008
 
• Received BJJ black belt in December of 2012
 
• Origin of nickname: “Magrinho means ‘Skinny’ in Portuguese. I’m skinny.”
